Be Kind 2 U!
My journey has just begun and along the way I have marvelled at my new found understanding of the human body, anatomy and physiology. I have a new respect for what our bodies do for us … we place incredible demands on our bodies, both physically and emotionally, and give very little acknowledgement or care for it. Our generation is one of “She’ll be right” or “I don’t have time”. We have our priorities all wrong! We are always in such a hurry … End of Month, weekend sports, Mondays. They all keep coming regardless of whether we are tired, sick or simply overwhelmed by life.
We need to start being kind to ourselves … having forgiveness and understanding. For that we need knowledge and education! 2013 finds us developing a more holistic approach to health and medicine. The benefits of massage are incredible, from cells to joints, heart and brain. The relaxation response is a little slice of heaven that I intend on sharing with as many people as possible.
Be Kind 2 U is about taking a moment for you – whether its 60 minutes or 15 minutes. From a gift voucher for mum whose superwoman cape could use a break, your employee of the month who has gone that extra mile, or simply to recognise and acknowledge everything we do day to day and how those demands affect our bodies. Through massage I am able to provide a positive touch environment – without judgement or question. My goal is to help you take a moment for you, to help educate about the benefits and the need to Be Kind 2 U!
Be Kind 2 U focusses on that moment when you can take a breath and relax – reset your body and mind. The relaxation response has not only a physical effect on us but also an emotional, mental and spiritual one.
My Inspiration for Be Kind 2 U
In May 2012 my niece Jess had her fourth open heart surgery. During this time I felt an incredible amount of emotional stress … fear for my niece, my sister and what would happen next. Jessica suffered set back after set back. Traumatised by the operations and on-going tests and procedures Jessica developed a fear of being touched. Everything was painful.
It was during this horrendous time I found my passion. When visiting Jess she allowed me to gently massage her feet and scalp. With approval from her specialist he encouraged both the physical contact and the emotional reconnection of positive touch. Knowing her condition he fully supported everything I did. I helped her move around her bed and eventually ended up massaging her full body.
At the hospital I was known as her therapist more than her Aunty, the nurses would ask they could be next. Jess would ask if I got tired or was board, my answer was no. I felt strong, and full of purpose. I was passionate about helping her feel a little peace, we both knew that it wasn’t going to last long but it was that little moment in time when she felt good, even amongst a world of pain.
I decided it was time to do something about it with my niece as inspiration. I made the decision to leave my career and follow my dreams. I wanted the education and knowledge behind me to develop my skills and abilities as a massage therapist. My intention is to follow my studies into medical massage. From antenatal, labour, cardiac to oncology massage therapy.
Take time for you and your body … call me now and book in for a massage!
